How To Generate More Leads For Your Business
Getting clients is easy when you have a clear and consistent digital strategy. There are plenty of ways you can market your business, generate leads and gain revenue, but there is no one “right” way to do this. You have to find a way that feels good for you AND works for your business. I’ve explored a bunch of different ways to generate leads since starting my agency and some have definitely been more successful than others.
Below are five of the most successful ways I’ve found to generate leads for your business. By the end of this blog, you will have 5 new strategies to start getting leads into your business TODAY!
Ask for Referrals
For the first 4 years I ran my business with ZERO marketing. I didn’t have a website, I didn’t run any ads, and I didn’t build an email list. Even with zero marketing, I was able to grow my business to $50k per year while working full-time. And it was all thanks to one lead generation strategy… REFERRALS.
Referrals are a great way to grow your business with no extra effort. Set up a referral program that rewards clients when they refer you to someone else. Then, when you have client openings, remind your past and current clients about your program and ask if they know anyone who would benefit from your services. Leads that come from referrals are great because they’re already warm. They’re far more likely to decide to work with you because they’ve already heard good things from someone else.
Cold Pitching
Cold pitching depends on being in the right place at the right time, and demonstrating value. You may happen to be somewhere when someone mentions needing services that you offer, you build that instant connection and pitch them on what you do. One strategy I love to use for cold pitching is showing the potential new client what working with you would actually look like for them. If you’re a web designer, that could mean mocking up a quick website and sending them a video walking them through the improvements from their current website to your mockup.
Social Media Content & Engagement
Do you ever watch an IG story or read a feed post with someone talking about all of the leads they get from Instagram and think how?!? How are they getting leads when I’m getting crickets?
It’s because they are using social media as a lead generator, not just a place to consume other people’s content for 3 hours at night in bed. By consistently creating and sharing content about you, your business, and your offers on social media you have something to talk about. You may feel like you’re posting so much that people are annoyed with you, but the reality is they’re probably seeing that content for the first time.
Once you have your social media content in place, what do you do from there? That’s where the engagement comes in. You have to start REAL conversations with your ideal clients without immediately pushing them to purchase. Build a relationship before you pitch them.
Cross-Promotion
Cross-promotion gets you and the value you bring in front of new people who may not have heard of you otherwise. It also sort of acts as a referral, because the person you are cross-promoting with thinks you are good enough to speak to their audience, so you must be good. Their audience is already loyal to that person so they will immediately be warm for you (there’s built in trust there already).
Sharing value with other peoples’ communities is a great way to gain exposure to new and different audiences.
Examples of Cross-promotion:
Being a guest on a podcast
Going live in someone else’s Facebook group
Co-hosting a webinar
Doing an Instagram takeover
Guest blogging
Facebook Groups
I’ve saved the most effective strategy for last… Facebook groups.
I was able to scale my digital marketing agency by $100k in less than 6 months, almost completely through Facebook groups. In order to use Facebook groups for lead generation, first you have to find groups to join Google them, search for things like “MLM mompreneurs,” or any other niche that you might serve. Join the groups, then start engaging! Answer with how AND why you can help in those “in search of…” posts, but it also means answering relevant questions, offering free resources you’ve created to people in the group, etc.
Facebook groups are an effective way to get leads and new customers RIGHT NOW. If you are trying to grow your revenue in 2020, can you afford not to use them?
I encourage you to pick a strategy to start with and put your time, energy and attention on that strategy for 60-90 days. While you may see an uptick in your leads initially, also realize that a good strategy takes time to build some momentum and consistency, so don’t give up!
