Loving Lately - Podcasts
There are so many great resources out there to help all of us entrepreneurs and side hustlers and I love sharing some of my favorites with you! Something I've been Loving Lately are podcasts. You probably already know how popular podcasts have become in the last couple of years and I am totally obsessed! I listen to podcasts while I workout in the morning, while I get ready, and during my commute. I like to listen to everything from politics & news podcasts to human interest stories but one of my favorite categories is business podcasts. I try to do something every day to better myself and my business and I'd say listening to podcasts about starting and running a business definitely qualifies.
Here are a few of the podcasts I've been loving lately...
The Classy Career Girl Podcast
I love The Classy Career Girl's blog for advice and inspiration on starting and growing a business and her podcast is no different! She also talks a lot about how to start a business while you're still working full time which is great. I think it's so important to be real and understand that MANY budding entrepreneurs start their businesses as side hustles at night and on the weekends. She's got a great backlog of podcast episodes so go check it out!
How I Built This
Here's a good ole NPR podcast for you. How I Built This tells the story of how many well-known brands got their start. It focuses on the founders that started and built their businesses from the ground up and how they did it. This is a great podcast because they tell a story of all the successes but also the failures they experienced along the way. If you're feeling stuck, alone or uninspired, give this a listen and I bet you'll be ready to get back down to business once you're done.
Side Hustle School
Everything you need to know about this podcast is in the name. The Side Hustle School podcast teaches some valuable lessons about starting and maintaining a side hustle using real examples. From the British man who earns $700 per month by writing fish tank reviews to a cruise vacation that turned into a side hustle, they cover anything and everything when it comes to sources of additional income. If you're strapped for cash and looking to make some extra money or you want to scratch that entrepreneurial itch, there are some truly random and innovative ways to make money that are covered in this podcast.
StartUp Podcast
If you already listen to podcasts, there's a chance you've heard of Gimlet Media, started by Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber. I listen to a ton of other Gimlet Media podcasts that are just for pure entertainment so I highly recommend you check out anything from this quickly growing company. StartUp has really changed throughout the 5 seasons it's been around. The very first season actually followed how Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber started the company and in seasons since they have covered a dating company (season 2), Dov Charney of American Apparel infamy (half of season 4), and a series of other businesses centered around a certain theme or problem. This is a really entertaining podcast that gets real about what it's like starting and running a business and often feels more like leisure listening than something I'm listening to better myself.
ProBlogger Podcast
While at first glance you might think this podcast is just about blogging, but Darren Rowse covers so much more than that. This is great listening for anyone who is building a brand and his nuggets of wisdom can be applied to any marketing strategy. He also has a fantastic blog that includes the series 31 Days to Build a Better Blog which I highly recommend you check out, whether you're just starting a blog or you're just looking to improve, it's an amazing resource! He has a backlog of almost 200 podcast episodes so if you wanted to start from the beginning, there is no shortage of material for you to listen to! Rowse gives real, actionable tips to improve your blog and branding. There is no get rich quick or easy success promised, but if you steadily implement the activities he talks about, I guarantee you will see results, you just have to put in the work and the time!
